Computer Club

Computer Club Meetings: The Computer Club meets monthly on the third Monday of the month at 11:00 am.  All residents are welcome.  The next regular meeting of the Computer Club will be on Monday, April 17 2017  at 11:00 am in the Encore Theater in LSC.

Computer Round table: Our Round table meetings are held monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the Village Square Music Room at 1:00 pm.  This is a place where you can bring your computer questions and ask the experts for answers.  The group will answer questions on desktop, laptops, tablets, etc.  This meeting always evokes a large discussion with many members dropping by for answers to problems that had been vexing them. The next Round table meeting will be Wednesday, May 10 at 1 pm in the Village Square Music Room.

Officers of Computer Club for 2016-2017:

The Resident Directory (an Excel spreadsheet listing the information in the Riderwood Resident Directory) is now available with current information. You will find it on the RWVRES folder on the F drive in the computer labs. Once you are in the RWVRES folder go to the folder Directory to find the new Directory. You will notice that it is a locked copy — you do not need a password but must click on the radio button indicating you wish a “READ-ONLY” copy. You may then copy the file and update your own files.

The Riderwood Resident Guidebook and campus maps are also available on the F:  drive in the computer labs.  Feel free to download the Guidebook for your personal electronic use.

The Computer Club is organized to help residents use, learn and enjoy computers.  The Club encourages interested residents to take courses here that are run by the Prince George’s Community College.  Among various other activities, the Club:

Sponsors tutoring sessions for residents in the Computer Labs in Village Square and Lakeside Commons

Provides monitors for Computer Labs who work with Erickson staff to assure equipment problems are identified and resolved.

Provides special workshop sessions (normally on a monthly basis) as a tutorial on special projects such as how to use email, how to download photos from your digital camera, how to set up mailing labels, etc.

Coordinates and provides information on Erickson Computer Services such as a Corporate discount buying service, and contact information on Erickson Technical Service Support(a fee based service provided by Erickson).

Supports a monthly TV program on Riderwood TV about computer use hosted by Jean Sammet on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m.  A list of past programs is available and users may make arrangements to borrow or purchase CD’s of these programs (DVD of Computer Club TV programs, purchase or borrow).

You may join the Computer Club by completing a form (Join Form) and sending your check for the current dues to the Club Treasurer as noted on the form.

A list of newsletters and tutorials that members might be interested in viewing has been compiled. This group of newsletters has been recommended by Jerry Cooperman.

Computer Club Handouts include copies of handouts (as available) from presentations made to the Computer Club.
